2 TEMPORARY FULL-TIME POSITIONS: STUDENT CURATOR (1) & MUSEUM ADMINISTRATOR (1)
Candidates can feel free to apply for both positions at the same time and on the same application.Candidates best suited for either position will:
-be enrolled full-time in an institute of post-secondary education in the field of history, art history, museum studies or an approved field of a similar nature.
-be familiar with Microsoft applications such as Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook and social media platforms.
-be willing to be trained on museum/archival software.
-have a keen interest in the history of Canada and be interested in learning more about the Loyalist migration to Glengarry and the history of the North West Company and it’s involvement in the fur trade (generally 1779-1821 and onwards).
-have excellent oral and written communications skills in English (basic ability in French is desirable) and be comfortable speaking to groups in an interpretive tour setting.
-be available from May to August 2024, some weekends and holidays included.
-be organized, accountable, and personable.
-French is an asset.
-have a least one reference readily listed on their CV.

The Glengarry, Nor’Westers & Loyalist Museum is located in the historic village of Williamstown, Ontario. It proudly displays the history of the Loyalist migration to Glengarry County following the Treaty of Paris in 1783 and the Revolutionary War. Those born to the settlers of Glengarry became the next generation of prominent fur traders, becoming wintering partners in the North West Company, fierce competition to the Hudson’s Bay Company until their amalgamation in 1821. Their lives and the trade they plied are depicted along with military and aboriginal artefacts from the era to offer up a unique and intriguing glimpse of this period in Canada’s rich history.
Reporting to the curator, the assistant curator will be available from approximately May 15th 2024 to August 28th 2024.
The hourly wage is $17.55/hour, 35 hours per week for approximately 16 weeks.
The schedule rotates amongst the staff with some free weekends.
Responsibilities
The summer student will participate in planning, developing, implementing and evaluating exhibitions and programs; in particular, the student will support and prepare for the reenactment weekend and large scale tours. Part of preparation will be the evaluation, handling, and storage of many high profile artefacts which the student, along with the curator, will be responsible for. The student will also be responsible for research and the storing of information on the collection database. The summer student curator will also work alongside the curator to mount two temporary exhibits during their employment while performing various other daily museum operations such as guiding tours and welcoming groups and visitors. The summer student curator will also play a leading role in managing and adding to the museums online platforms throughout the summer by keeping the community informed and digitizing the two temporary exhibits.
Positions are pending funding by the Young Canada Works in Heritage Organizations and Canada Summer Jobs programs.
